Tobacco-Free Kids Action Fund Applauds Strong Tobacco and E-Cigarette Policy Issued by Mike Bloomberg

Statement of Matthew L. Myers, President, Tobacco-Free Kids Action Fund

WASHINGTON, DC – The comprehensive tobacco and e-cigarette policy announced today by Mike Bloomberg represents exactly what our nation needs to reverse the worsening youth e-cigarette epidemic and accelerate progress against tobacco, the number one cause of preventable death in the United States. The next president must have the courage to stand up to the tobacco industry and implement policies like these that can prevent e-cigarettes from addicting a new generation of kids, help more smokers quit and save lives. This plan continues the unparalleled leadership Mike Bloomberg has provided in the fight against tobacco. We urge all candidates for president to make the fight against tobacco a priority in order to protect the health of our children and save lives.

The Tobacco-Free Kids Action Fund receives funding from Bloomberg Philanthropies. The Action Fund would comment similarly on tobacco policies issued by other presidential candidates.

The Tobacco-Free Kids Action Fund is a nonpartisan 501(c)(4) nonprofit organization affiliated with, but separate from the Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit. The Action Fund works to reduce the devastating toll of tobacco use and secondhand smoke by mounting advocacy and electoral campaigns in support of policies that prevent and reduce tobacco use.
